Human rights education has a number of definitions and a lot of different interpretations. Although in our opinion, the best way to describe human rights education is by telling the aims of it. The long term objective of this education is to create such a culture, where human rights are understood, protected and respected.
The goal of human rights educators all over the world is the same – to encourage life in the world, where human rights are appreciated and honoured.
Nevertheless, the aim of human rights education is not just a culture in which everyone knows their rights, since knowing does not mean respecting and without respect there will always be human rights offenders. The culture of human rights is a web of attitudes, beliefs, behaviour models, standards and rules.
The task of Culture Centre “In Actio” is to disclose this web and to reach these goals:
- To enhance the respect for human rights and basic freedoms
- To encourage self respect and respect for others – the feeling of human dignity
- To foster attitude and behaviour that leads to respect for rights of others
- To ensure gender equality and equal opportunities in all fields of life
- To promote respect for cultural diversity, especially for national, ethnical, religious, linguistic and other minorities
- To promote active citizenship
- To promote democracy, development, social justice, harmony, solidarity and friendship of persons and nations
- To continue the work of international institutions that seek to create the culture of peace, which backed up with values of human rights, international understanding, tolerance and non-violence.
By the time we live in such a world where human rights are violated all over us. That is why we are determined to change the whole world, working here! That is one of the fundamental aspects of our work as human rights educators.
According to that, Culture Centre „In Actio“ splits the aims of human rights education into three main fields:
- To encourage youth to deepen their knowleadge and understanding about human rights, in order to identify human rights violations.
- To develop skills and capabilities that are essential for human rights protection.
- To raise respect for human rights, so that the rights of others wouldn‘t be violated on purpose.
In order to reach these goals Culture Centre „In Actio“ does following activities:
- „Stick up a message“ – a campaign and production of stickers for promoting Human rights with a help of creativity.
- „For tolerance“ – a campaign and creating of postcards for tolerance in Lithuania.
